You can delete your Flow Chat account and the data associated with it at any time, directly inside the app. This page explains how to do it, what gets deleted, and what we are required to keep.

Delete your account from the app

Deleting your account is done from the Profile screen in Flow Chat. You need to be signed in, because we only ever delete the account you are signed in with.

On Android

  1. Open Flow Chat on your phone.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Tap your name and photo at the top, under Profile.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the Profile screen and tap Delete Account.
  5. Read the confirmation, then tap Delete.

On iOS

  1. Open Flow Chat on your iPhone.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Open the Profile (account) section.
  4. Tap Delete Account.
  5. Read the confirmation, then confirm the deletion.
For your security, if you have not signed in recently you will be asked to sign in again before the deletion goes through. Choose the same account you are signed in with — Flow Chat cannot delete a different account.
Deletion is immediate and permanent. Your account cannot be recovered afterwards, and neither can the translation time, purchase history or saved conversations attached to it. If you sign up again later you start with a new, empty account.

If you cannot sign in

If you have lost access to your account and cannot complete the steps above, you can ask us to delete it for you.

Write to us from the email address the account uses, with "Account deletion request" as the subject. We verify that the request comes from the account holder, delete the account within 30 days, and email you once it is done.

What is deleted

When you delete your account, the following is deleted straight away:

Data What it is
Sign-in credentials Your Flow Chat account itself, including the email address it uses and the link to your Google or Apple account.
Profile Your display name, profile photo, chosen language, and the record of the terms you accepted.
Translation time and Pro entitlement The free translation time on your account and its link to any Pro subscription.
Saved conversations on your device Your Duo conversation history, your saved Flow groups, your blocked-user list, and your app preferences are erased from the phone you delete the account on.

What is kept, and for how long

A small amount of data outlives the account, either because it belongs to someone else as well or because the law requires us to keep it. None of it is used to rebuild a profile of you.

Data Why Retention
Messages you sent in a group session They are part of a conversation that belongs to the other participants too, and are only visible to the people who were in that session. Kept with that conversation. Ask us by email and we will remove yours.
Abuse and moderation reports Reports filed by or about the account, so that safety decisions and repeat abuse can be reviewed. Up to 12 months, then deleted.
Purchase and billing records Records of subscription payments, which tax and accounting law requires us to retain. Payment details themselves are held by Google Play or Apple, never by us. Up to 7 years, as required by law.
Security and diagnostic logs Server logs used for security, debugging and fraud prevention. Purged on a rolling basis, normally within 30 days.

Live conversation audio is never part of this: it is translated as it is spoken and is not stored after the session ends.

Deleting your account does not cancel a paid subscription. Subscriptions are billed by Google Play or Apple, so you have to cancel them there. On Android, open the Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions and cancel Flow Chat. On iPhone, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Cancel before you delete the account, so that the subscription does not keep renewing.
